Celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King's Birthday

Yesterday was the third Monday in January.  And that means it is time to reflect and celebrate the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King.

We talked about Dr. King and how he worked so hard to make the world a better place.  We watched a short video about hime and read a couple of books.  At the end of our discussion, I asked the children just what was it that Dr. King wanted.  I was so proud of the children for giving such a wonderful answer.  They all kept saying  that Dr. King taught others about the GOLDEN RULE.  Yes, they said, "He wanted everyone to treat others the way they wanted to be treated".  It doesn't get any better than that.

We did these pictures of Dr. King today.  I thought the children did wonderful work and wanted to share it with the whole school.  So I put them on our bulletin board in the hall.

I gave the children a page with a picture on Dr. King on it.  The picture was does in dark grey, light grey, and white.  I had the children color the dark grey with black, the light gtey with grey and the white with white.  And it just worked beautifully.  We used oil pastels to do the coloring.

Thank you Dr. King for your wisdom, hard work and love of everyone.
