November Art

We have some real artists in our class.  Take a look at these!!

These wonderful pictures were created by first giving the paper a watercolor wash using purple, yellow, orange, and green.  We then did a scarecrow in a cornfileld using oil pastels.  Aren't they pretty!!

Here we did cornucopia with markers.  The project involed reading the color word for each object.

These are indians we did.  This was a follow the direction activity.  I would draw and shape and the children would copy what I did.

We wish you and your families a wonderful Thanksgiving and safe travels.

A Look Into Our Classroom

It has a while since I have posted.  Here is a look at some of what we have been doing.

Some of our fall art.  We loved painting these leaves.

Here are some pics of centers.

We use the ipads weekly in our class.  We are so lucky to have a set for the kindergarten classes to use.

The Vestavia Hills firefighters visited us and talked to us about fire safert at home.  We also learned a lot about what is on the fire engine.

It's Apple Picking Time!!!!

Be on the lookout for some yummy apple activities this week!

Teddy Bears!!!

We had Teddy Bear Day in class this past Friday.  It was so much fun seeing all those cute bears.  We did some graphing activities with the bears  Take a look.

Some of our graphing questions were
     Is your bear brown?
     Is your bear wearing clothes?
Does your bear have a black nose?

We did a measuring activity with the bears.  Using the UNIFIX CUBES, we measured the ears, arms, legs, and height of the bears.  We recorded our answers.

We used several different kinds of manlipulatives to make teddy bears.

We love our teddy bears and we loved Teddy Bear Day!!

A Great First Week

Friday is here and as I look back over our first week, I can just tell we are going to have a fantastic year!!!  The children have been settling in our routine and getting acquainted with our school.  We had our Parent Meeting last night.  It was such a pleasure meeting and visiting with you.  I look forward to our school year and getting to know you all better.

Here you will see a little of what was going on in our class this week.

We made our first graph using the poster that is pictured.  We are learning many ways to count.

Take a quick look at a few of our centers we did today.
Here we have a an activity where the children are matching beginning sounds.

We also lined cupcakes up in ABC order.

At this center the children were building and then looking for the different shapes they used to build the structure.

Here we have a couple of  more folder games.  This first one the children read the number word and numeral and then place the correct amount of kittens on the mama cats.

This folder game involved placing the cats in numerical order.

We have been talking about words that rhyme with cat.  It was fun reading the words by sliding the letter strip through the cat.

Each day we listen to a story as we read along with the tape / CD.

And this is how we ended our week this afternoon.

Well, we all survived the first week of kindergarten.  So, I would say, we had a fantastic week.
